Modern Languages (optional)

While there is no formal modern language requirement for either the BBA or the BSBA degree, many of our Business students wish to begin or continue studying a modern language while at the University of Miami.  This complements our focus on cross-cultural and global learning.  Additionally, the Arts and Humanities Cognate (general education requirement) may be fulfilled through three modern language courses in the same language. 

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures has prepared placement guidelines to help a student identify which course would be appropriate as an initial placement, given a variety of factors.  Please note that there are separate guidelines intended for native and heritage speakers of certain languages.
