Course Selection 411

As a new student, in the School of Business Administration (SBA), you will be responsible for selecting your first semester course schedule in CaneLink. 

As a new student, in the School of Business Administration (SBA), you will be responsible for selecting your first semester course schedule in CaneLink. 

A typical full time academic schedule is five courses for a minimum of 15-17 credits for the fall 2017 semester. Read the instructions below AND THEN place your course selections into the shopping cart in CaneLink. Here is a guide for course selection for fall 2017:

1. ENG 105 - English Composition I (3 credits): Select a section of ENG 105. If you have advanced placement or dual enrollment credits in English, please indicate that in the Comment box on the UM Business Profile. The Registration Advisor will guide you into the appropriate English course.

2. MATHEMATICS (3-4 credits): Take the UM ALEKS Math Placement. The ALEKS Placement is required for all Business students. Indicate your math score on the UM Business Profile. Based upon your math history and the UM ALEKS score, the Registration Advisor will determine your appropriate Math course.

3. BUSINESS CORE COURSE (3-6 credits): Select one of the following business core courses.

BSL 212 – Introduction to Business Law
MKT 201 – Fundamentals of Marketing
ECO 211  – Economic Principles and Problems(micro)
or

ECO 212 – Economic Principles and Problems (macro)

4. ELECTIVE COURSE (3-6 credits):  Place a 3-credit elective into your shopping cart.
This course should be of specific interest to you. It may also satisfy requirements for an additional major, minor, or cognate.    Some examples include:

5. BUS 101 - FIRST STEP (3 credits): This is a mandatory freshman business core course required in the fall or spring semester. The Registration Advisor will inform you if you will be enrolled in BUS101 for fall 2017.

If you are not enrolled in BUS101 in the fall 2017 semester, you will enroll in 5 of the courses you have selected and placed in your shopping cart.

6. UMX 100 – The University of Miami Experience (0 credits): This is a required online, self-paced course for all new students to the University of Miami. (Enrolled by UM)
