Business Cognate for Non-Business Students

New for Incoming freshmen (class of 2017)

The Cognate in Business offers non-business students a broad overview of the business environment that will promote their understanding of the real-world issues affecting the twenty-first century global economy.Through the coursework students will learn essential business concepts and will be able to think critically about the questions that confront decision-makers in the functional areas of business. This cognate fulfills the People & Society (P&S) area of knowledge.


FIRST take *BUS 200:  Introduction to Business (offered fall, spring, and summer I)

THEN take two (2) from the following list:

*BUS 201: Money (will be offered beginning spring 2014)
*BUS 202: Intro to the Legal Environment of Business (will be offered beginning spring 2014)
*BUS 203: Managing Effectively:  A Skills Development Approach (will be offered beginning spring 2014)
*BUS 205/HIS 225:  History of the Modern Business Enterprise (offered by announcement)
MGT 251: Nature and Foundations of Entrepreneurship (offered by announcement)
FIN 300:  Finance for Non-Business Majors - prerequisite: BUS201 (offered fall and spring) 
MKT 301: Marketing Foundations (offered fall and spring)

*These BUS courses are unavailable for credit toward any School of Business degree, major, or minor.
