Academic Programs in Entrepreneurship

The UM School of Business has offered entrepreneurship courses since 1946 and offered an undergraduate entrepreneurship major for over 25 years. Thousands of students have been educated through the School's undergraduate and graduate course offerings, which are open to students from all over the University of Miami campus. In addition to its regular academic offerings, the School hosts an Entrepreneurship Lecture Series throughout the year and organizes open entrepreneurship classes, panel discussions and other activities as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Major

The School's undergraduate major in entrepreneurship is offered through the Department of Management. Core courses for the 18-credit major include:

  • Introduction to Entrepreneurship
  • New Venture Planning
  • Entrepreneurial Consulting

The remaining courses required in the major include one additional entrepreneurship-related class in management, one in finance and one in marketing. Undergraduate entrepreneurship electives include:

  • The Mind of the Entrepreneurial CEO - Virtual Simulation Experience
  • HPV: Planning and Development  
The capstone experience for entrepreneurship majors is the Student Entrepreneurial Consulting Program, in which students gain real-world experience working with successful entrepreneurs and their businesses.
          

MBA Entrepreneurship Program 

For graduate students interested in entrepreneurship, the Department of Management offers various entrepreneurship-related electives including:

  • Entrepreneurship: Creating New Ventures
  • Entrepreneurship: Launching High Tech Ventures

Entrepreneurship Lecture Series

Throughout the year, the Entrepreneurship Program hosts a speaker series featuring successful entrepreneurs - many of them UM alumni - to share lessons they have learned, insights and advice on succeeding as an entrepreneur. Some recent speakers include:

  • Antonio Ellek - Founder, Pasha's Restaurants
